About
History of the Midwest Marriage Retreat
Purpose
To enhance and support traditional marriages based upon biblical principles.
The marriage retreat started in 1998, when Sis. Kathy Savage wanted
the couples at Carlysle Ave. Church of Christ (Later known as Annapolis Park
Church of Christ) to do something on the weekends. So, the marriage retreat was
formed as a spiritual weekend getaway for couples to enrich and enhance their
marriages. This also gave couples time to fellowship with other couples. The first
retreat was held in Warren, MI. Other congregations became interested and were
invited to attend. It was such a great success that we now have 11 participating
congregations, 10 in Michigan, 3 in Ohio and 1 in Wisconsin. Each year we have
about 150 couples in attendance. Because there were so many congregations that
were involved, the name was changed to Midwest Marriage Retreat (MWMR).
Each couple is responsible for securing a hotel, guest speaker(s), activities for the
weekend and Sunday morning worship services. Collections for that Sunday will
go to the host congregation for next year as seed money. For a congregation to be
a member of the MWMR that congregation must be:
*In good standing with the brotherhood.
*Willing to abide by the by-laws and guidelines set by the leadership and board of directors.
