History
Honoring Sis. Kathy Savage
In 1991, Sis. Kathy Savage wanted the couples at Carlysle Ave. Church of Christ (later known as Annapolis Park Church of Christ) to do something on the weekends to enhance and support traditional marriages based upon biblical principles. Thus, the marriage retreat was formed as a spiritual weekend getaway for couples to enrich and enhance their marriages. This also gave couples time to fellowship with other couples. The first retreat was held in Warren, MI. It was such a great success, other congregations throughout the Midwest Region became interested and were invited to attend. Today, we have 11 participating congregations; 10 in Michigan, 3 in Ohio and 1 in Wisconsin. Each year, we have about 150 couples in attendance. Because there were so many congregations that were involved, the name was changed to Midwest Marriage Retreat (MWMR). For over twenty plus years, Sis. Savage has worked tirelessly to ensure that married couples have the opportunity to spend a weekend together where they can grow mentally and spiritually to improve their relationship. Unfortunately, our sister was called home on December 4, 2014. We will continue to carry on with our Kathy's vision to strengthen marriages for many years to come. May you rest in peace Sis. Savage until we meet again.
